End of Year Giving 2022

As we approach 2023, you might think about final end-of-year gifts to organizations that positively impact our global community. If you are still looking for an organization to support, check out (and share!) these five suggestions -

Vital Voices: I have been lucky enough to work with Vital Voices in different capacities over the past decade. For 25 years, Vital Voices has been championing women's rights around the world. "Serving as a 'venture catalyst,' Vital Voices identifies leaders with a daring vision for change and partners with them to make that vision a reality. It provides connections, increased capacity, a peer network, financial support, skills training, and increased visibility for their work, which ranges from gender-based violence and climate justice to economic inequities and political disempowerment, and more." Want to invest in women? Support Vital Voices!

DC Justice Lab: I was introduced to the incredible DC Justice Lab by a friend who is a lawyer. This organization consists of "law and policy experts researching, organizing, and advocating for large-scale changes to the District’s criminal legal system." They work tirelessly to "develop smarter safety solutions that are evidence-driven, community-rooted, and racially just." By donating to the DC Justice Lab, you can help their team make Washington D.C. the national leader in justice reform.

National Guild for Community Arts Education: This is the only national organization in the U.S. dedicated to serving those who provide community arts education. The Guild believes "in the power of the arts to transform lives." To help their 400 member organizations across 46 states, their membership fees are on a "pay what you can" basis. Their members ensure our communities have equitable access to a wide range of artistic disciplines. Spread your love for music, dance, painting, and more by donating to the Guild.

All We Can Save: You may have seen the book All We Can Save featured on the Bold and Bookish and Girl Friday Instagram accounts. What started as an anthology of essays has blossomed into a global campaign. Needless to say, I am a huge fan of the scientists leading this environmental movement. They are hopeful about our future and believe that we can transform how we think about climate change and empower our communities to lead meaningful actions.

Apache Stronghold: Opposition to the proposed copper mine at Oak Flat in Arizona has united environmentalists, Indigenous rights advocates, land defenders, and religious freedom activists. If allowed to succeed, the copper mine will decimate a sacred site for the Apache in Arizona and potentially cause untold environmental damage. The fight to save Oak Flat is not over, and you can support the San Carlos Apache Tribe by donating to the Apache Stronghold and by talking about the importance of protecting Oak Flat with friends and family. On social media, use the hashtags #ProtectOakFlat and #SaveOakFlat.
